    Default I heard different!

I was reading on xbox sceen forum and a lot of ppl on there said that he whole 7200 hd does NOT over heat your xbox. There was a lot of threads on there supporting this that the whole myth of it over heating is BS. Is this true or is all of your sources just hear say?

Its not a very big deal the 5400 or 7200 speed thing - I have never seen anyone get an overheated Xbox unless it was already broken from somthing else - it is a fact that 7200's can run faster and that you wont get any real benifit from the extra speed and hence its just a guide line - everyone I know has a 5400 speed drive (mainly because of the heat thing but also cos they are were cheaper).

If you want a 7200 go for it - doubt you'll get an issue but - remember I am in the uk and its bloody cold here - dont know what weather your gonna have in the next few months but you may want all the cooling you can get.

i have a m8 who fitted a 7200 to his and fitted a small fan on the underside of the hdd caddy just in case, he's had no bother at all.

with the 7200 having a faster rpm it's bound to cause more heat due to friction, but not enough to do any mischief.

    *edit*
is all of your sources just hear say
this sounds a bit like you're implying that none of us know our stuff, rest assured you're talking to some real pro's here

like BFG said, 7200 rpm causes more friction, friction means heat, even if it very little, the xbox creates and traps enough heat as it is, so that's why I went 5400.

If you go for a 7200 get a maxtor and not a ibm as i have both, and the ibm runs a lot ohtter than the maxtor..otherwise theres bugger all difference.. hope this helps.

7200 s are usually a lot louder too.

If you want to buy a new Harddisk for your X-Box, I'd recommend the Samsung SpinPoint Series.
The disk is fast enough, cheap and verry silent!
I use the 120GB Model here and have never had any Heat Problems....

    cheers
