Help! Compaq Presario laptop

Hi
I need help my lap top has decided that it has to do a resume from disk?

I don't remember asking it to and as far as I remember I closed down normally

I have tried taking the bios backup battery out but it still try's to do a resume

I think it must be doing something from the harddrive
but I don't want to have to reformat the harddive if I can help it
