Default Norton 2003 Problem ??? Boot Record Problem ???

    Hi Guys

    Anyone got any ideas ????

I am having a few problems with my PC, I am using Norton 2003 Anti Virus Software, The Cleaner and Adware. If I scan my drive using Norton I get a window appear saying that my boot record has been altered I am then asked if I want to ignore this, except or carry on scanning my system. I have once excepted this and when I restarted all of my e-mails had been erased ? I also noticed that all of my office applications have no buttons i.e.. W for Word E for Excel etc.
I have run The Cleaner and adware and have found nothing I have also used Trend Free Virus Scan and found nothing.

If I now scan my HD it scans my system for hours and hours, It appears that it's scanning everything several times over for example "C:WINDOWS/////////////////OPTIONS/TEMP"

Has anyone got any ideas other than FORMAT C: ???

    Cheers

Sys restore's always worth a try first m8.

Only ever seen it work right on XP tho.

    Should be in
Start > Progs > Accessories > Sys Tools > Sys Restore

    Hi Hookerman

At first I had to use my emergency ME disk to restore the system, I have just got in and checked the computer and it seems Norton is only scanning Windows ???? It had scanned 41133482 files.....What the hell is going on ?????

    Thanks for you reply.

    @bomberman
If its a temp file remove it in safe mode and reboot looks as if somethink has loaded a load of files into the folder

    Hi zulu95e

I have checked this and the space on my disc, and I dont have that many files, I checked again with the latest updates on Norton and this has now removed all of my programs from the start/programs folders. If I explore C: they are all there ????

I think it's got to be FORMAT C:

    Chees any way guys.

I had a similar problem with a pc, before formating and reinstalling boot pc into a dos mode and try to do a surface scan on the hdd, i afraid i ended up changing the hdd.

hope its not the above but its worth checking before wasting time.
