Default Windows Media Player 9 help..

I have only recently downloaded the new Windows Media Player 9 for XP Pro, but I am not able to view .asx files and streams from the internet. Before I downloaded this version, I was able to view streams perfectly, but now all I get is an error message.

ahh, its gone tits up again. When i want to stream something, it plays the first 5 seconds but then the video dosent play, the sound is still there, but no video. Before I installed Media Player 9 it worked perfectly using WMplayer8. How would I get back to using media player 8?, is there anyway, because when I have come to install an old version it dosent let me, it just says "You already have all the media player updates".

    Can anyone help?

Unless someones come up with a workaround, you cant un-install media player 9 (as far as i know)

If you go to: tools - options - performance(tab)

There is a section for buffering. Is that set to default, or to 5 secs. Try changing it. It might help.

Also, what are your network settings. Protocols to receive streaming media. Mine are set to: Multicast, UDP, TCP and HTTP all on. Use ports unchecked. That works for me. Are you behind a firewall - could it be that.

Hope that helps, (or at least rules somethings out). Good luck

nah, its not helped, thanks for replying though mate.

Im on NTL 600k broadband through a USB, I have a network card, but I took it out when i got the PC cos i was on dial up then, and i didnt bother putting it back in because NTL said u need 128mb ram to have a network card to work broadband, and this comp has 112mb ram, do u reckon it could be the USB?

Unless you changed your hardware when you upgraded to MP9, i'd guess it's a software fault.

Check the microsoft knowledge base , and also check that you have the relevant codecs and see if there are any updates for it.

I'm afraid that's my knowledge exhausted, but if i have a flash of brilliance, i'll let you know.

    Good luck mate

    EDIT:

Have you checked under file types, to make sure that asx is turned on?? Long shot I know, but always worth checking
