    Default Floppy Drive Help Plz

    I HAVE JUST BROUGHT A SECOND HAND P111 COMPUTER BUT MY FLOPPY DRIVE DOES NOT SEEM TO WORK I HAVE FITTED A NEW FLOPPY DRIVE AND CHECKED THE CONNECTIONS ARE CORRECT BUT STILL DOES NOT WORK.WHEN I GO IN TO SYSTEM PROPERTIES AND SELECT PERFORMANCE IT SAYS DRIVE A IS USING MS-DOS COMPATABILITY MODE FILE SYSTEM,DOES THIS MEAN ANYTHING.
    MY OPERATING SYSTEM IS WINDOWS ME MILLENIUM EDITION.

    Please turn the caps lock key off mate!

    Anyway, do you get any error messages during POST?

    As for the floppy cable, it probably has two connectors, and there will be a twist between two of the connectors - have you tried each of these?

    Also, a lot of floppy drives have the cable orientation the other way round to IDE, may not be true nowadays as I haven't touched normal PC stuff for a long time now..

    When you drop to a command prompt and type A: does anything happen, ie does the drive light flash?

    A stupid question but you have tried more than one floppy disk?

    turned off caps lock.
    no problem with posts.can i ask why u have asked me if i have a problem with posts.
    checked cables,the end with the twist in it is correct as if i turn it the other way round the floppy light stays on.
    have not tried typing a in dos mode will try it now.
    have also tried different floppy discs but still no luck.

    POST mate, didn't mean your posts on here

    The POST cycle is what your computer goes thru when you turn it on and where it reports memory, IDE devices installed etc...

    Sometimes you'll get a Floppy Drive Failed (40) error at this stage.

    Have you tried connecting the floppy to the other connector in the cable (I'm guessing there are 3)...

    There are also some BIOS options which can sometimes make a difference - is it an Award, Phoenix or AMI BIOS (or another)??

    floppy drive working now,went into the bios and found floppy drive disabled so i enabled it and sorted the problem out.thanks for your help.
