Graphic card problem ?

I have a problem when running things that alter the screen size when running, such as games (mainly) what happens is for example if i try to run a game from desktop the game loads when it trys to change the res of the screen it goes black and shows desktop again, the game or app is still runing in the tool bar at the bottom and the music or sounds of the game are still running.
IF i try to click on the toolbar the app/game opens the screen goes black the monior clicks for a different res and then i go back to the desktop again. It has been working ok so don't know if there is a setting in XP i have checked or unchecked, or installed some program that has checked a box.
I have a xp2000+ on a gigabyte ga7dxr board with 756MB pc2100 ram and a 32mb rage128 graphics card running Xp with SP1 installed.

Might think about upgrading the graphics card. Has this happened on a game that has worked in the past?

yeah, things that used to work now don't. although saying that sometimes can get them to work if run in 98/me compatability mode.

Sorry to drag this up again, but i have sorted it ( 1 radeon 128 MB card later), just to let anybody else know what was going off, when I tried to run a game, the game would load but become a background task, the sound was there but defaulted back to the desktop. Upon doing a test on graphics on directx, the problem was when doing the test using direct 3d it wouldn't do them coming back with the message "you cancelled the test by pressing a key". So if anyone else gets this problem, mine turned out to be the multimedia keyboard, Disable the icon in the tray (bottom right) right click on it and press exit and all is good.
