    Default Karma?

Right, each member now has this karma link under their names which can be clicked by other members to increase that member's karma. It can also be clicked by the member himself to view his total karma points. But my question is what is the purpose of the karma system? Is it similar to the use of post counts but indicates average level of quality of posts (e.g. 500,000 posts but only 10 karma points means that most of the posts by the member are crap)?

Hmm. You may be onto something. Speaking as mods I think it might be a decent tool for us just to get a rough idea about the general state of a member. Meaning: Assuming all members start off with a certain karma points (e.g. 10) and then if there is a sufficient drop from that level, then mods can superficially assess that a member with 5 karma points may be worthy of monitoring. But this would require a clarified understanding of what it takes to have on'es karma points decreased.

I guess when the board is back to the old addy everything will be explained.

    yes

go to the user cp http://overclockershop.com/df/usercp.php?

then all karma gained and lost will be displayed underneath you subscribed threads with a reason if the person who added/deducted your karma chose to leave one.

but i thinik maybe your all thinking about this way too hard, its just a nice little extra incentive not to post shite.

I hope no one gets carried away with it like other boards , where more post posts were made moaning about not being karma'd than worthwhile ones

sadly i agree with maccy on this, the karma hack has never realy proved usefull, seems just to lead to arguements and tit for tat retaliation, admin actualy deducts / adds more karma than other members when they use the system, ok so we wont abuse it TOO much (hi marcode) but its something i've never seen the point of as surely we can judge the quality of the posts by reading them and lets be honest, how many people used the "rate thread" system on the old board? the worlds longest thread had 5 stars but a realy usefull post by almost anyone had nothing.

its realy just a chance to use some poor sod as the df whipping boy now madmanc is gone, i cant see cam getting many positive points despite his helpfullness to other members.

Its only supposed to be a bit of fun ladies. So anyone spitting out dummies for losing karma is probably going to draw more attention to themselves by being put in the HOS and losing even more karma.

one little error if u give someone karma, then click on it again, it displays a window about the quarter size of ur screen and u can only read it if u open it up. It just says u cannot give karma twice for the same post. can that be changed to a smaller notice so no need to scroll / expand the window?
    Meh....

I'm starting to see that there's a case of "karma for the boys" (man, that makes me sound like such a twat) where it is only being awarded to 'famous' members. Don't get me wrong here, I'm not fishing for karma points or anything. Sniff.
