Phantom console details revealed

More details of a challenger to the console gaming crown have been released by Infinium Labs, the Florida start-up behind the Phantom console.

The machine's operating system will be based on Windows XP, said the company on its website.

It will have a 3GHz processing chip, an Nvidia graphics card, a 100GB hard drive, 256MB of RAM memory and come with wireless technology built-in. But there is no CD or DVD drive as games will have to be downloaded over a broadband connection.

The machine is not due to go on sale in the US until the first quarter of 2004 and it is expected to cost around $400.

3GHz??? Bloody hell, thats powerful! Cant see this taking off tho, in fact- i think it will flop big style.

Hmm, with a subscription type games download service I can't see many people wanting it, but no doubt the games will be ripped from the HD and made available online from the usual places.

that sux, so u can only own around 30 games before u have to start whiping the harddrive

that seems 2 hav flop written all over it (if it's planning 2 compete with ps2 etc.).
