Default No IP for Windows XP/Xbox Evolution X

I'm having problems getting windows xp, pro
to assign an IP address to my xbox. The xbox simply says 0.0.0.0 for an IP. None of the ftp programs I've tried will work, leap ftp, and fxp, and I don't have a hub or router, if that matters. Just an ethernet card that came on the Compaq for internet access, and cross-over cable. I would like to be able to have my computer recognize the xbox drive as a network drive and be able to access it from My Computer, but would settle for ftp. Any information helps, and is appreciated.
    Thanks, Steelwheels

You need to assign an IP in the 192.168 range.

Try setting your NIC to 192.168.0.1
    Subnet 255.255.255

    Set the xbox to 192.168.1.1
    Subnet 255.255.255
    Default Gateway 192.168.0.1

    Use Flash FXP for FTP.

I tried the new settings, but no luck. Thanks for the help but I?m still not able to assign an IP address to the xbox with my computer. Should I be able to do this, and if so, would it be in network connections, or maybe on the xbox itself? FXP just times out when I try to log on.
    Thanks for you reply. steelwheels

Thanks for your help Stu99 but the link didn't help. I put the settings just where I was supposed to but no luck. I'll post again soon but have little more information.
    Thanks, steelwheels

If would say the same as stu99, except for more luck maybe, i would put :

Try setting your NIC to 192.168.0.1
    Subnet 255.255.255.0

    Set the xbox to 192.168.0.2
    Subnet 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway 192.168.0.1

Are you sure you are saving the box IP when you exit??

I also had a problem when using the Slayer Instsaller, I had to unpack it and edit the file to have a fixed IP before i put it on the HD.

What about the workgroup name, does that matter?

You'll not get anywhere until it's got an IP Address. Assign one manually or try switching on Internet Connection Sharing. Then Restart Xbox. If that don't work try downloading DHCP Turbo and restart Xbox.

It's not something silly like a dodgy cable? Or a normal patch cable when you should have a crossover cable?

Is it plugged in direct or into a hub?

I have a new crossover cable that I have hooked directly to my Internet, SMC EZ Card 10/100 PCI (SMC1211 Series) card on the back of my computer, and I?ve checked it a couple of times. I can open up network connections, and I can tell my computer which IP address I want it to have, or to look for, but I?m not able to assign one to the xbox. I don?t seem to be able to change any of the settings on the xbox with the computer. I?m pretty sure the computer sees it because when I try to set up a network connection, it will say that it?s connected, but that?s all it says. It won?t give me any functions to work with. My FTP programs won?t connect either. I log on with the title, xbox, and then the password, xbox, but no luck. The xbox is set for FTP transfer, but the IP is still 0.0.0.0. I think that?s every thing.
    Thanks for the help
    Steelwheels.

0.0.0.0 isn't an IP address. The Xbox MUST have an IP address BEFORE the two will be able to talk to each other.

You will have to set the IP address on the Xbox via the Xbox. You won't be able to do it from the computer unless you install one of the DHCP programs I mentioned in my last post (and from what I hear they are a little flaky)

    Try this though...

Firstly Enable Internet Connection Sharing (this gives you the IP address 192.168.0.1)

In the Xbox Dashboard, set up your IP address as follows:

    Config: Manual
    IP address: 192.168.0.2
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.0.1

In the Xbox Dashboard, navigate to DNS Server and set it up as follows:

    Config: Manual
    Primary DNS: 192.168.0.1
    Alternate DNS: 195.92.195.95

Now from the PC click Start, Run and type ping 192.168.0.2

If you see reply from 192.168.0.2.... your Xbox and PC are talking to each other. Congrats. You'll now be able to run you FTP programs...

Sorry for taking so long. I don’t want to go to Xbox Live, I just want to be able to use my FXP program, at least for now. I was able to go to the xbox live menu by way of the dashboard and change the settings according to Mr. James post. I was mistaken before thinking that I should be able to go to settings at the initial menu to change the IP, which I couldn’t do. I’m not sure how to “Enable Internet Connection Sharing” still. Is that on my computer? When I try to ping the xbox, my computer times out. I also time out with FXP. The settings menu still says my IP is 0.0.0.0, and when I reboot the xbox, the settings in Xbox Live go back to what they were before.
It’s late. I’ll check back in a day or two, and thanks again. Steelwheels
