    Default Whys my amp buzzing??

Does anyone know the common causes for why an amp might start buzzing? I've got a yamaha amp (5.1/DTS) and recently its started emitting a quiet but noticable buzz from all 5 speakers.. no matter what source is selected. My DVD player is connected to the amp by an optical cable. Can't think what might be causing this.. I got a new DECT fone.. but I've just unplugged it and the speakers are all still buzzing. Can someone shed some light on this for me please? :nowords:
<Lionel Hutz> Oh I am, am I? Is that what you think? Well if that's what you think, I have something to tell you. Something which may shock and discredit you. And that thing is as follows. I'm not wearing a tie at all.

I think you've posted in the wrong section mate. I'm not great with home amplifiers but from knowledge of car amplifiers it could very well be one of the following:

Interference from a power source (electrical cable running too close to the signal trasmitter) don't think this applies to an optical source though.

As you still get the buzzing from all sources then it could be a poor ground on the plug for the amplifer.

Finally the only other idea I can think of is that your amplifer is damaged, I had an amplifer that did the same thing not because of source problems or poor grounding but it was just damaged :oP

Well hopefully something of the above helped.

    Good luck mate!

actually theres not really a section it fits into, we dont really have a tv/hifi/home cinema equiptment area, perhaps in the future it will be added.

itll do in here.. its loosely movie related and this is what movie talk section is for i spose

Generally it will be a dodgy earth... take your amp back.

if it's a 50Hz buzz... surely you know what this sounds like identify & remove any local power cable/equipment to see if it makes a difference...

    good luck M8 !!
