A last-minute deal has been reached that will keep ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 on satellite TV for non-Sky subscribers - however viewers will need to pay around £20 for a new viewing card. Since the BBC abandoned Sky's encryption system earlier in the year, it has stopped paying for the solus cards which allow non-subscribers to receive the free terrestrial channels via satellite. Under the new deal, commercial broadcasters will now contribute "hundreds of thousands of pounds" to the scheme, although viewers still look likely to have to pay a fee for the card - which is reportedly around £20 for two years.
