on some cars ( my astra for example ) you hold the trip switch in while turning on the ignition this clears the service message on the milage readout
maybe it's something like that on yours

switch off the ignition , press and hold trip button , wait 10 seconds , sorted.

    Hi I am new

I also need to bin the LCD spanner light off. I have read this thread with interest and it seems to offer the solution... but WHERE/WHAT is the trip button? The only button I have on the dash is the one to zero the journey mileage and I have tried toggling this for the 10 secs with the ignition both on and off...

    It's a 306 petrol

ignition off press and hold in the trip button (the zero milage button ),keep it pressed in and switch on the ignition and keep it pressed in for a futher 10 secs the display will now read zero and the spanner light will go out
