    Default tivos lifetime subscription

Hi I have one of the first tivos out and i took out the lifetime subscription. when i took it out i was informed that if anything went wrong with the system then they would replace the unit no problem as it was under warrenty as long as you took out the subscription. they also informed me that this subscription was transferable as i could give it to my familey if i wanted to all i had to do was change the name on the subscription.

i have not opened it up yet as i am sure that this warrenty is valid.

can anyone tell me if this is true or not or if they have been told this aswell.

thanks in advance for any help.

You warranty is not the same as the subscription. ie it isn't a lifetime warranty. So unless you had some form of extended warranty (ours was till Dec this year, but hey I opened it and put in a drive and a turbonet!) then it's just a year. The subscription however is transferrable to another person BUT it stays with the TiVo box. For instance my sister in law got one last xmas and took out lifetime subsctiption, she couldn't get on with it however (her kids kept using the sky remote to change channels and messed up her recording) so she sold the whole lot to my mate and they phoned TiVo and transferred the subscription to him. I hope this helps.

Another point is that if your TiVo breaks completely and is non fixable and you had a lifetime subscription then that is considered the end of the lifetime and they will not apply it to another box.

This is my only complain about TiVos

However you can transfer the sub yourself , if you think that tivo will declare it dead and you can get another box, unlikely!
