How do u know if pso is a patched version?

Just recieved 2 today but my m8 has got me bba so i cant tell at the moment hes posting it to me today but need to find out if its the patched version?
I just went into network settings on the game and it says i must connect either modem or bba to it so does that sound like the non-patched?

What I heard was that there is coming a new version of PSO Plus edition, I gues nintendo and Sega will but there patch in this version.
