    Default Sony Vaio Notebook PCG-FX501

Hi ..One of my Grand children trip on the power cord and puuled the laptop to the ground and in doing so damaged the DC Power socket.

The machine worked ok on the battery until it ran out and the machine would ot longer power up or charge,I then noticed the the inner moulding of the power socket had broken and had fallen into the machine.

As the machine was out of guarantee I stripped it down and removed the power socket...I contacted Sony but their policy is not to supply spare parts(To any body)...but for a charge of £35:00(to examine the item) + £10:50 (for telephone support) the would collect the item, examine it and give me a quote for repairs.

I pointed out that it only required a new DC Pwr socket but their reply was that they don't do that but would have to fit a new mother board for a min cost of £200:00.

I trying to obtain a socket of the same type but was unable to....so I hard wired in an external 'In line plug' and replaced to charger end with an inline socket and the machine functions as normal (the inline switch of the original socket was not used).

This cost me a total of £1:25 p.....I would still like to find an original DC socket for cosmetic purposes...(if any knows were I could obtain one)....but cannot understand why Sony refuses to supply spares?...it is obvious that they will refurbish my old board

I've got the very same model and had to send it back as it would not charge (don't know if it was the same problem). They sent it back repaired but they were then going to charge me £35 as they said it was my fault but could not explain why... told them to stuff it and never heard no more...
