Id go with Sky+ as its £200 and you dont have to pay subscription anymore (not stated on that site)

you do if you do not have sky movies or sky sports. Which is a con since they put the normal min subs price up

I don't think anyones disputing tivo *was* a great system, but come on, it's not around anymore, you have to pay silly money to buy units now off eBay. I had been running a miniITX PVR for past year without any problems, blisfully happy that i had a better system than sky+ ,then i actually got sky+ installed and won't go back. Being able to watch + record diff channels and infact 2 things at once puts it streets ahead of tivo or any other pvr's

Also that table states that you can't instant rewind, of course you can, the option is disabled by default (go to sky+ setup and enable 'instant rewind').

All the tivo fanboys will porbbaly start flaming now, but again i'm not saying tivo wasn't a great package, but i find sky+ a much more polished and better integrated system than my tivo or miniITX PVR were (yes I had a tivo for few months last year before selling it and getting a miniITX to do the job).

ooh and having dolby digital on the movies is ace

Tivo was a great system ?? whats changed ? - you can buy tivos for £239 as new online (not ebay) Sky+ has improved alot recently and works well but there are features missing that IMHO puts Tivo ahead still. The recording two things at once thing is cool but you need a extra sky subscribtion for that I believe. I havent got Sky+ but am I right it saying it doesnt "learn" what your like and record things it thinks you will want on its own ? If so then this is whats wrong with it - this feature is fantastic, also i like to be able to set rules on the tivo - like "records anything with Christopher Walken in it" - Can Sky + do this I dont know ? Also controlling my Tivo via the WWW from work is pretty handy. By the way I dont consider myself a Tivo "fanboy" - I dont feel strongly against SKy+, I just think Tivo is better due to its proactive nature and function. If only Tivo would release a newer model as in the states, I dont think we would be having this dissucisson as SKy+ wouldnt get a look in.

I agree the pre-emptive recording thing on tivo was indeed ace, i do miss that feature on sky and every credit to tivo + the other pvr's (sageTV, mythTV) for having these features too. But the dual tuner thing really does come in handy though, i didnt think it would but now i've got sky+ i couldnt go back, being able to watch + record different things is a godsend. You don't need an extra sky sub for the 2 things at once, just a regular sky+ sub.

Perhaps if the UK ever sees a revised tivo it will have another chance, but as it stands, it's only really techies and the hardcore tivo fans that are really going to get a chance to appreciate it.

Out of interest where can you get a tivo for new for £239? could make a killing on eBay by buying a few of those. I sold mine for almost £300 on eBay

be careful the tivo prices are dropping on ebay as the demand peters out.

depends purely what u wanna use it for.. and since dual recording is an absolute must, tivo is straight out the window.

im sure tivo is good and the pre-emptive thing is a good feature, but its not something i would prefer instead of dual recording. sky+ is a much more rounded package and fits neatly in one little box with one remote for all functions.

    also, sky+ is actually cheaper.

ill stick with sky+ .. especially since its not actually me paying for it..

Fair enough Tivo is defiently for the more advance user - esp. the turbonet card/networking aspects allowing remote control over the net etc. Can't see me explaining that to my dad !

    cheers
