Default Mega Drive/Snes which was best?

I've heard claims Snes was more powerful and that Mario Kart couldn't have been done on the genesis.

Likewise I've heard that Snes couldn't have handled Sonic's pace. So which console was technically superior?

Oh come on, snes of course

Had both, but snes definitlye had the number 1 spot for me, yeah sonic was ace, spent months playing john madden and loved streets of rage, but compared to mario world, mario kart, contra 3, yoshi's island, there was no contest at all, snes all the way.

    Heh, this old chesnut.

I know nothing about the tech specs of either machine, but the SNES pissed on the MD in every department in my opinion. Graphics, sound, gameplay, controllers, the lot.

Although I think the MD was more of a commercial success. Christ knows why. Probably trendy marketing, as we see now with Sony and Nintendo....?

SNES by a clear mile, mainly due to Super Mario and Super Mario Kart.

Pitty Nintendo have just turned shite ruining all there old classics with GC incarnations.

    snes or md :whistle

hard choice...both had loads of cool titles.

to be honest, there's no point to these arguments anymore, cos both consoles can be had for next to nothing from ebay etc.

I've got smash pack with virtually every md rom for my DC, and I've been thinking about getting a snes anyway.

I think the argument is the same as the current GC issue...

Nintendo gameplay/quality vs amount of titles/licences

@ horo, never tried linking the copier to my PC before so couldn't tell you. Shouldn't be too hard to change the floppy drive though.

Megadrive ruled then, and still does now!

SNES was slightly superior technically, Megadrive couldn't handle the kind of sprite rotation that SNES used, (badly... and all the time!) but at the time, the men had the MD to use, and the boys had their SNES' to play with!!!

A lot of my old SNES games have bitten the dust,- ALL 80 odd of my MD carts still work perfectly.

As for the controllers, the 6 button joypad for the MD, is STILL unbeaten in my books!

Also, the version of Street Fighter that came out for MD, is, in my opinion the most playable conversion ever!!!
20 single men... 20 single women... 300 ravenous monkeys! Melanie,- START THE MACHINE!!!

snes was superior in every department except one

for some reason paralax scrolling was easier to program on the md (but still looked crap)

doesnt matter on your choice of games (although i wouldnt choose slowdown and jerk (aka toejam and earl) as an example) in simple terms the md had a sligtly faster processor but it didnt have the same quality of support hardware giving it no speed advantage and in every other respect it was inferior.

for what its worth it could barely even be classed as a 16 bit machine since it was based around the mc 68008 (8 bit data bus processor) and the z80 (old sinclair procesor and deffo 8 bit).

the snes realy had a 16 bit processor, but to make a comparison for those familir with the neo-geo console that was based around the mc68000 and z80 so compare the true power of a 16 bit motorolla chip (in the neo) and its 8 bit version (in the md)

oh and the best home streetfighter from that generation was sf alpha 2 on the snes, second best was on the pc engine, the megadrive version came in about 4th on the list

    SNES

Final Fantasy, Zelda, Mario Kart, Mario World, Mario Allstars, Breath of Fire, Contra 3, Star Wars, Megaman

SNES absolutely annihilated the MD, all MD had was Sonic the ****hog

I would have to go for the MD, the 6 button pad ruled. And it had Shining Force and Landstalker which were great games in their time.
Don't get me wrong the SNES was also great, but I owned a MD so I have grown up preferring it.
