Just finished the SP and thought I would try the MP, keeps saying CD Key already in use, please reconnect later...WTF?

If I get an original serial how do I put it into the game? Do I have to reinstall from the original game disks or will I still be able to use my ...backup?

Dont worry.. if you uninstall the game and reinstall with the new key you will find all your saves and keyboard setting intact....

As for the key issue, if a server is registered on gamespy it uses basic anticheat software which checks your key against a master list of known copies... if it match's - BOOT!

You can get around this with a keygen but it will be fiddling with the registry and not always garuanteed to work. There are server on All Seeing Eye which allow all connections but again it is trial and error.

These is a patch coming out imminently which is due to fix a number of MP faults on CoD and this may also include a number of security fixes which may make is harder to get into online play without a genuine serial key.

There is also a push from the gaming community to run PunkBuster anti-cheat s/w on the servers to stop cheating which ruined (for me anyway) HL and MOHAA.

Yeah - I stopped playing Counterstrike as it was just a farce with all the cheating - personally I think any online game should have to be an original and have as much anticheating stuff as is humanly possible on it. Xbox live is a good example of this in action though it is easier on a console.

Well most games now run online CD checks when you connect to the server.... although not all servers run this but you will find that they are privately owned and may not be managed very well. The patch for CoD has been delayed until next week. Was expected to be out before Xmas but no sign of it yet....

Am going to give Rainbow 6 Ravenshield a go now as I have been told it plays like Mohaa but with modern weapons!!

ive just been playin mp game, was workin fine, then all of a sudden was saying my serial was not valid!! i entered it in the options and it said it was verified, i own an original of the game WTF is this all about??

Welli been using a *Backup* copy of his game and i found that if u right down about 6 serials and test each one u get online and play away fine u can change the cd key easily by using the multyplayer options.
