    BIOS Flash without Cromwell?

Can I flash my executer 2.3 lite with the latest 4979 BIOS without Cromwell? If so how can I do this, I have limited hardware.

just get the new evox dash as it has a flash facility incoporated into the settings, but if you haven't got ftp access then the only other way is to make a flash cdr/dvdr/rw and do it that way.

tools are on www.xbox-scene.com or from #xbins on efnet

It won't read my PC World (lol) CD-RW it says it is a dirty disk or corrupt. Remember this thing has NO BIOS on it except the normal one.

It has a BIOS, but it is 4817, what I believe to be the normal, MS one. This makes flashing a bit hard.

Samsung drive - the one with the two holes.

Thats good then! Still unsure of how to flash it though - looks like I need a programmer.

    Have you got the Slayers install disc? If so grab yourself copies of clonexb and xiso. Use clone xb to make a backup of the slayers cd and then unpack it with xiso. Get the version of the bios you want to upgrade to, locate the folder that has the bios files in (that you just unpacked) and remove all the files and replace with your chosen bios renaming it to something like newbios.bin or M7.bin. Next open the evox.ini file and edit the line that points to the bios;

EXAMPLE (I have used an old Slayers disc your one may not be the same!) .... use this as a guidline though.

    [Action_75]
Info "Ready To Flash XBOX v1.X onboard TSOP BIOS"
Info "With Xecuter2 4974 MultiVer IGR"
Info "Once Complete the Xbox will self Reset"
Info "BIOS Write Enable points MUST be bridged"
Info "Unit Must be operating without a Mod Chip"
Warning "If Uncertain, Turn Off Xbox to Abort!"

    flashbios "\SYSTEM\ALL\Bios\x2_4974_MultiVer.bin"

simply edit the lines in bold to correspond with your bios file, you don't have to edit the first bit but I did it so as not to forget ;p the second line edit points to your bios file, make sure the file name is exact.

Once you have done that open up xiso again and choose Tools> Make a Xiso and locate the Slayers folder (the one you unpacked), click on it once to highlight it, then click OK, then name the file to save as "whatever", then save it. Xiso will make the .iso file for you so you can then burn with Nero.

When you have done all that load up the disc and choose option 8 flash xbox v1.x board tsop or 1mb mod and choose the line you edited, and flash your chip (remember to unbridge the flash protect jumper before flashing)!

    now the warning!!!!!!!

do this at your own risk, I wont be held responsible if you make a hash of it and you do a bad flash!

I have used the above method many times and it worked for me, it still does, but bad flashes do happen although I have never had a bad flash this way, the only way to correct a bad flash as far as I know is with the external programmer or by hotflashing (I don't recommend you do this unless you know what you are doing, and if you do the above statement applies again ;p ... )

after all that I guess you'll be getting the external programmer huh?

    www.baldbouncer.co.uk sell them, about £15/17 I think.

If he hasnt got any bios on the chip already then slayers isnt going to help him.

bit lost here, the chip must have a cromwell bios on it, they come with it as standard dont they? if its completely blank then the only way your gonna flash it is by getting the external flasher thing or hot swapping the chip in an xbox allready modded with X2

Yes but my chip came blank.

No-where sells 2.3 lite programmers in the UK and I am not a solderer. No1 has a modded xbox either.

Yea I had read that thread before! It was BB who chipped my 'box so I am going to wait and see if he replys to my email (he has so far replyed to my other ones) then maybe he can help.

But just now I have an xbox with a buggered controller1 port and a chip that is useless as it does nothing. :-/

so BB has chipped your xbox and it has a blank chip in it? that doesnt sound right. theres no way of flashing the chip without it having cromwell on so how on earth are u expected to use it!
i think theres been a lil confusion between you and BB, hes a very good and very helpful chip fitter.
grab him on ICQ, hes always answered any questions i have had before

He does reply to my emails usually. I amn't disputing he is a cool guy it just said it came with cromwell and now it can't be flashed without more money. Plus the controller port is screwed but I can fix that!

I was thinking of maybe doing a gamesave hack if that would work because no1 sells the 2.3 programmer in this country?

you can use the x2 programmer that is out now m8, all it needs is 2 points being shorted and works , its a very easy job.

its just soldering a blob between 2 points m8, its easy, plus they have made small adapters for it now so u dont have to do the soldering bit.
