Default do "lost" phones automatically get their emei number banned?

a friand of mine lost his phone (7250), got a replacment under the insurance provided by his contract and then found the old fone, the orange sim it had in it nolonger works and when he bouht it to me i presumed that as soon as it was reported lost the contracter would block the emei number

i was playing arround with it just now and i thought id try the unlock code for making the phone open to all networks just to see how it works, well that went ok and when i put my tmob sim in it the phone was fully operational.

surely this isnt normal? have the contracters forgot about the emei and just killed that sim that was in it (they will have sent my mate a new sim with the same number come to think about it)

my mobile phone knowledge is minimal so i may just be missing somethin obvious

there's always a bit of a delay between the other operators, ie voda t-mob o2, recieving the relevant information from orange and blocking the phone on their networks too. give it a couple of weeks and im sure u'll find it blocked on all networks.

With orange and if its contract they can disable your sim and phone! If you still have your old phone its possible to still use it but with a different sim

Have you tried to make a call with the T mob sim in. I bought a phone once from a police lost property auction that was barred on all networks. All the other network providers come up with the same screen message "sim registration failed" except T mob. If you try to make a call with that sim in though, you cant. If you call that number from a different phone you get the message "calls are not currently.......etc, etc.

for some reason they block calls but you can still text ? it all depends on the network and phone though, but i assume it will eventually get locked
