    Default Changing my IP address....

Hey guys, I am currently behinde a Belkin Router, which also has a Belkin wireless running off it, I am the only one on the first router, I was wondering how I change my IP address? I use an FTP site, but recently been blocked via my IP, and want to change it to access it again. Is this possible?

Depends on how your setup with your ISP, there are 2 types of IP addresses.

Static: Where you keep the same IP address everytime you use the internet.
Dynamic: Where your IP address changes everytime you use the internet.

Find out from your ISP what type of IP you have "Static or Dynamic"

Disconnect from the net and reconnect, if you have the same IP address its Static, if its different then its Dynamic.

If its Static you could ask your ISP if it can be changed but some say its cant be done, but there is no harm in asking.

    Also.................

You can use a proxy server were you use someone elses IP address and not yours.

    Not true.

If the DHCP server has any sort of lease time on it (and they all do to one degree or another), then it will simply re-issue the same IP if the requesting MAC appears on the network before the lease time expires.

Normally yes but not always the case.

And in what instance would a broadband user be able to get a new IP addy before the lease time expires on a dynamic setup other than presenting the network with a new MAC?

The IP address that other sites see when you connect is generated from your ISP not your home based router.

You could ask your ISP if they can give you a new IP address.

If the site op went to the trouble of banning your IP address then I would think that your account was also removed at the same time, so getting a new IP address (if your ISP actually agrees to do it) won't make any difference anyway.
