Car running like a bag of shite!

1996 Daewoo Nexia 1.5

Previously it was running perfectly fine then all of a sudden whenever I
press the throttle peddle more than a couple of inches the engine starts
spluttering like it's misfiring with complete lack of power. If I bring
the throttle pedal back up again the engine will run normal and smooth
until I need more throttle again. I've got about a couple of inches of
throttle pedal movement where the engine runs ok but press the pedal any
further and it splutters and runs like shite again.

At the moment I've checked the plugs & leads and replaced the throttle
sensor but made no difference. Someone suggested the fuel filter but without a manual does anyone know where the fook this is on a Nexia?
Any suggestions welcome.

try the vacum advance and retard pipe bud.
it could be split or blocked..

Had the same problem on My Focus.
Turned out to be the Coil.If you have breakdown cover, drive a couple of miles from your home and call them out. They can check it out for you.

m8ty have u looked in the dizzy cap and wots the rotor arms condition ? is there a lot of soot inside? clean with wd40 inside

Thanks guys. I've checked all around the engine and dizzy cap / rotor arm and blown & sucked down every pipe I could see but it does sound like the problem is fuel related. It's like it's not delivering enough fuel when I press down further on the throttle but it's ok ticking over or very light acceleration.

leefart2. I will be very grateful if you could let us know where the fuel filter is on these (and a rough price if you know). It's the 16v DOHC GLXi Nexia.

Could be the ECU. I think it controls the fuel flow through the injectors.

Cheers m8 but I'm now doubting that it is the fuel filter. Started up this morning from cold and it drove perfectly for about quarter of a mile and then once warmed up the fault suddenly appeared again.

bmw328i. I think you could be right about the ecu. The local garage is going to have a butchers tomorrow as I've given up on the piece of shite. That'll be the fooking Daewoo my arse. The bastards should have stuck to making tv's & vcr's!

It did have a knackered cat in the past and failed the MOT emissions test but it still drove ok though. I fitted a second hand one about 2 years ago but having said that I did notice an unusual burning smell from the exhaust after I parked up yesterday and there was a bit of smoke still trickling out of the exhaust even after the engine was switched off. I thought that might just be down to not running properly prior to parking up. I'll see what the garage say tomorrow and let you know.

Have you had your carburetor checked out??? could be blocked jets ,dodgy diaphram or just knackered!

@Wonkyfox. No carbs on this one m8 it's injection. All mod-cons on a Daewoo lol. The spluttering only occurs once the engine has reached normal temp so I think if there was any blockage it would do it all the time even when cold.
Bloke at the garage said to give him a ring tomorrow but it might be Monday before he gets around to it.

There is a hose from the inlet manifold that goes back to the MAP sensor, should be located on the bulkhead, will have a connector on it with three pins. If there is any leak in this hose it will give you the sort of problems you have. When I say a leak it can be as small as a pinhole to cause problems.

Still no news. All checks so far have drawn a blank so it'll be Monday now before I hear anything.

Philo. I mentioned your suggestion but they said they've looked at all the pipes & hoses and checked all the vacuum pressures. I'm now braced for bad news! :annoyed:

the weird smell from the cat is normal,like rotten eggs,im inclined to agree with the air leak theory,i has an astra gte which suffered the exact same probs,never found any obvious air leaks til a mate brushes some petrol round the pipe going from the airflow meter to the inlet side and it started revving its tits off indicating it was sucking air,that said unfortuantly its one of these 1 of a 100 possibilities,hope you get it sorted m8,i know what a pain in the arse it is.

the fuel filter is at the rear next to the petol tank. My Girlfriend has the same car

sounds like the mixture is too rich causing it to flood try the air flow meter
