Default Using ps2 eye camera toy on pc

Found this posted and thought it might be useful to someone. I haven't tried it yet but it's supposed to work ok.

    Found this in uk.games.video.playstation:
    Quote:

    How to get your EyeToy working as a webcam in Win2k;
    (with thanks to Daniel Wild)

    http://support.dlink.com/

    Use drop down boxes to locate drivers for;
    D-Link DSB-C310 (Rev B1)
    Download driver from D-Link

    Unzip to a folder
    Go to folder, locate OV519.inf,
    Right click file,
    Properties>Untick 'Read Only'

    Open OV519.inf in Notepad
    Edit>Replace

    Replace
    VID_05A9&PID_8519
    with
    VID_054C&PID_0154
    Select 'Replace All'
    Save OV519.inf

Then, plug your Eye Toy into the USB port, wait for it to be recognised and
install the drivers' in the normal way using the Have Disk option at the
prompt and the modified OV519.inf file.
(double check which drivers you're installing as my Win2k attempted
    to install its own driver)

During the installation, you'll get a system box with ???? in it...this is
the 50Hz/60Hz option setting. I set it to 50Hz for now.
    That's it.
The software to view the webcam output is included in the driver pack...
    AMCAP.EXE, Options>Tick Preview
You should now get a picture of whatever your EyeToy is pointed at.

Running XP Pro SP1 here and it works like a charm.

Just follow the guide, but instead of downloading the win2k drivers download the winxp drivers.

    1) Download the attached drivers.
    2) Unpack them on your pc.
    3) Plug-in your eyetoy.
    4) Locate the drivers
    5) When a pop-up appears about unsigned drivers, answer with 'Continue anyway'.
    6) Another pop-up appears with a few '????????' click on 'OK' and in the next screen select 50hz or 60hz.

    Done... :thumbs

If this doesn't work maybe sony made two different camera one from logitech and one from namtai ?! :|

Mine is recognised as a 'Logitech EyeToy USB Camera'. I have a PAL (Netherlands) eyetoy so maybe there are some differences between a PAL UK and a PAL NL eyetoy-cam :|

I have seen eyetoys in town and I thought the quality was great compared to almost any other webcam I have seen

Is the performance just as good when on the pc ? (i.e. smooth when you use it on msn etc?)

Im sure the smoothness on msn would depend on your internet connection. If you've got dsl it will be smooth, but 56k it wont be.

    Right,

I have the Namtai one under XP pro I got it working thusly:

    1. Download the above attached drivers
    2. Extract to a folder
    3. Edit the OV519.inf file with notepad
    4. Hit ctr+H to find and replace.
    5. 'Replace all' VID_05A9&PID_8519 with VID_054C&PID_0155
    6. Save and exit the file
    7. Run install new hardware from the control panel
    8. Point it to the folder you extracted the files to.
    9. Hit ok to the ??????? pop-up.
    10. If you are in the UK hit yes to the 50hrz question.

voila, you have a web cam.

    Cheers,
