ok i just updated the bios on my msi kt6v mainboard and the xp3000 processor is now only showing as a xp1700 , could this be a bios setting?? help me please i dont have a clue

Go in to your BIOS and set the FSB speed to 166MHz, and a CPU multiplier of 13x (multiplier should be automatic anyway).
This will give you an actual clock speed of 2.158 GHz, which is what the XP 3000 really runs at.
