Adobe Premiere is tops once u get to grips with all the features. Pinnacle is ok for beginners but limited in my opinion.

agree competely, did my first project (magaluf 2003) in studio 8, found it great as an introduction to editing dv, fast and easy. did my second project (various trips out in the car/music video) in adobe premier, loads more effects and plugins available and it can reverse clips as studio doesnt. only thing now is studio 9 has full screen preview and i cant get premiere to do that yet.

both are readily available in the usual places (ng's/irc)

hope you get a good start, its worth it when you have a finished dvd with menus to show fiends and family

I know it's horses for courses, but I'd give Vegas Video a go too. For me, it is so much simpler and certainly less daunting than Premiere if you're just starting out.
Ask all your local P2P stockists, I'm sure they'll let you 'evaluate' a copy.

Well if he wants to do it professionally then it's not worth using a PC!

Get a Power MAC with either Final Cut Pro or Avid.

Premier is a pile of **** imo!
