    Default Packard-Bell EasyNote M5-262

    Bula!
This is my first post, so move me if I'm in the wrong area...
Looking for advice...I've been offered a Packard-Bell EasyNote M5-262 laptop. Originally bought in Jan04 for £999, I can have it practically unused for £500. I am looking for a desktop replacement, and this has a good spec. - details on request.
It's just that I don't know much about Packard-Bell as a brand - is it PC World's house brand? Is it a case of a) don't touch it with a barge-pole (if so, why?), or b) competent performer in its class, or c) bargain of the century, or d) ???
My main uses are with Word, Excel, Palm sync-ing, email and internet, and I want to convert CDs to MP3s. Also, we're due to get Broadband here in August, so I may well get more into music and video then...
Would love to hear from any (former) owners, or anyone with experience of this model or its competitors.

    Vinaka!

    Welcome to the board.
Packard Bell is a very good make would need more info on the specs, but is it is cost a Grand then i would say yup it's worth £500, if that is all you are using it for then buy it and i will swap with you.
Like i said give us the specs and we will give you the world

I used to support PBs They're the best value in the UK bang for buck if U want lots of sw usually.
Beware of the recovery system if U want to wipe it - can be a real mare.

I'm sorry Bluto, but since when have Packard Bell been a good make? Or have they pulled their standards up in 5 years?

PC's I hope U expected that :thumbs just like Compaq, Medion, Emachines, Dell ................... all just badged up n shipped out.

NEC PCs have a very similar spec OK they're the same machines.

True Wizard they did have the worse reputation at 1 point as they're almost a PCWorld home brand. That's the market they're aimed at tho so being prolly the best commision product for a PCW salesmonkey coupled with their customerbase it wreaks of disaster to me
I still stand by my earlier statement tho as U do get a shedload of software with them usually which to your PCW customer is that bit more than the competition.
