My friend is complaining to me about popups on his pc (Win ME) which aparently are appearing sporadically throughout the day, even when he's not surfing the net. I've got him to run Spybot, but it didnt detect anything. Any ideas guys?

use mozilla as a browser it is free and has a popup killer

Look at messenger settings (if he is using messenger) as there are pop ups in that. DO a search to find how to turn this off. Alternativly he can get the google toolbar, this has a pop up blocker and is damn good.

might be windows messenging its been exploited by various adds in pop ups, not msn but a service in windows , i wasnt aware that it was a issue in me, only xp +2k
