could be ribbon but only likely if you've taken it apart and fractured it
in this order
check
1. mains lead including fuse
2. power supply main fuse
3. If you have a multimeter set it to dc volts and measure the power supply output across the 2 outer pins in the group of 4 prongs - dont touch anything tho as theres up to 400v dc in circuit.
4. Ribbon cable
5. motherboard main fuses
cheers,
malty

Thanks for the reply
This might be a silly question however, would there still be a red light omitted from the reset button if just that and the eject button were connected to the ps2 power supply, as in the ps2 mobo not even connected ?
Many thanks
Also in addition, what amp is the fuse for the ps2 power supply ?
Thanks
in the majority of models the reset/eject ribbon is connected to the mobo

Ok..
I have tested everything but one on the ps2 you instructed me to Maltloaf, how and where on the ps2 do i check the motherboard main fuses.
Because now there is a red light being ommited from the power button, but now it just wont turn on.

erm that page is in spanish, any english translations ?
Regards.
the pic is ok for your needs. use a continuity tester and check each of the components marked ps1, ps2 etc. If you get no continuity across the component, then it's dead.
