Floppy drive won't read disks

Whenever I put a disk into the floppy drive and try to check what's on it, I keep getting a message saying "please insert a disk into drive A:\", even though there is a disk in it, this happens with ALL disks, so it can't be the disks. The connections between the drive and motherboard seem to be fine. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

buy a new floppy drive... its not like they are expensive.

Yea, I was thinking about that, but I was just wanting to try and ge this one to work until I can get a new one on monday.

Once there fecked there fecked. You could try blowing out any dust that may have got in there

Also instead of buying another 1 get your self a usb pen drive instead. I haven't had a floppy drive for about a year now

agree , usb pen drive are excllent invention , has the floppy worked before ? it is possible to get the data cable plugged in the wrong way round

I had the same problem on a recent build. Had to change the floppy cable in the end.

Strange though the floppy cable works in other machines. Still ours is not to question why, just rip things out and give em a try!
