Help!! Networking.

My M8 wants to connect 2 pc's. He is on tiscalli and has a usb broadband modem (speed touch I think). Dose he need a router and some type of cables? Can anybody help? Any links to products he will need from ebuyer would be great and any online diagrams.

I have just come across the below . Both PC's have onboard lan if that helps. This article seems to suggest a cable and thats is. so is that a cross over cable linking the lan ports?


How do I share my connection?
If you are running Windows 98SE, Windows 2000 or XP, the simplest method is as follows:

Install a network card in the machine with the USB modem.
Enable Internet Connection Sharing for the USB modem.
Install a network card in the computers you wish to share with.
Set each computer to obtain it's IP configuration via Dynamic allocation (DHCP).
Thats it - a very simple sharing system should be running.

An even better way would be buying a cheapo router (around 25 quid) and some rj5 cable and plug them into the lan ports and that is you sorted.

All you need to do is either point a browser to the router or install the software and put in your login details and that is you sorted...that is the best and easiest way IMO.

So where would I plug the usb modem? into the router or one of the pc's

You throw the USB modem in the bin, the router you want will have to be an integrated ADSL router (integrated means the ADSL modem is built in).
