Noisey Harddrive

I got myself a new 200gb maxtor 7200rpm 8mb cache HD the other day, it's installed and fitted OK, but it's a bit noisey! I thought they were meant to be nice and quiet, my other HD is anyway. it seems to "click" as it's accessed, any ideas anyone?

could it be some sort of vibration? loose wires? i'm at a loss. if it's faulty then i guess i should send it back... i don't want it breaking on me!:nowords:

I would take it back if you think it's too noisy. It may be on it's way out and you might as well get it replaced before you lose data

Some hard drives do tend to be a little noisy, even new ones. I wouldn't necessarily assume this to be a faulty drive. In future you might want to look for a drive that says its "quiet" on the box. There was i believe at one point or another a special silencer made that slipped around the drive. Maybe your local dealer might be able to advise.
