Virtually free anyway - you pay a 1p connection fee but thats it. I havent tried it out yet myself but will be giving it a go.

I posted about 18866 a while back now. Used to use them to contact my Lady abroad. Also used them for UK calls. I thought the connection was a little more (nop i can see it is not)
This company are great, only ever been down once in the 13 months i have used them. GO GO GO.....Q
No, you're right - the connection used to be more but since the 2nd September they have reduced it to 1p
On their website it looks like free UK landline anytime, from mobiles 12p a minute to any network - after your free minutes of contract. Am I missing something here, this sounds too good to be true. There also seems to be a way of adding other phones (mobiles in your family) that get the same deal. I am a bit thick - am I reading this correctly - is there a massive service charge that I have missed.
Pete
No, thats really the price!! 18866 is part of the Telediscount family, along with 1899.co.uk, they ofer slightly different charges for various calls, so it is worth checking out their sites to see whats best for you for each type of call you make. You need to sign up for both the 18866 and 1899 services, the Telediscount service works on 0845, 0844 and 0901 numbers so their call charges go straight onto your normal phone bill. I am based in the UK, but need to ring customers in the Republic of Ireland daily from my company mobile. the cheapest Orange rate for ROI is 15p/min, with Telediscount I only pay for a local call, which might even come out of the bundled minutes, so you can make big savings.

Without thinking i made a UK call last night using my 18866 (forgot about this thread) and the lovely voice said, this call is free, I thank you.....
cheers......Q
Anyone here on O2 (stupid question considering the sims) I have a monthly pay package and I think it costs me 25p a min to phone a 0808 number, any know if this is correct ?
If it is I wonder if there is any way to get cheap calls out of a O2 mobile phone, as i donrt have a land line.
Thanks
Dan
Someone has suggested to me after doing some digging that This service uses VOIP (Voice over IP) thats why its so cheap, how it works exactly I've no idea. Does anyone know anymore about there service?

Has anyone done this on cable?
On this page, http://www.18866.com/mobilerates.php#, it seems to state it costs 2p/min for cable people to phone a uk landline?
Did a full unit on voice over ip in my final year of BSc. Basically it allows you to have a telephone conversation where the signal is carried over the Internet or a dedicated network in IP packets, instead of over dedicated voice transmission lines. This allows the elimination of circuit switching and the associated waste of bandwidth. Instead, packet switching is used, where IP packets with voice data are sent over the network only when data needs to be sent, i.e. when a caller is talking.Originally Posted by CzarJunkie

I found this article on another site and its a great idea.
Im sure must of us us broadband, but if you use dial up, then you can use this offer to make your internet connection only cost you 1p for the entire length of the time online, instead of 1p a min.
The way to make it work is to use the ISP land based numbers instead of there 0845 and then prefix these numbers with 18866. Heres a list of numbers.

Can I access the internet via 18866?Originally Posted by Dopey Dan
No, unfortunately this is not possible. Internet providers offer dial up services using special access numbers which cannot be dialled using 18866.
@ KK, if you look in the post you will see that there are normal 01XX / 02XX numbers listed for a load of ISP's that should in theory be accessable via 18866, for 1p connection charge.
Has anyone actually tried any of these with any success?
