how the hell can i share a folder on 98 so my other machines can access it off the network ?

Can't remember the exact process because I never really used 9x as such, but I do believe it goes along the following lines:
Control Panel > Network and install "File & Printer Sharing"
Restart the machine, then right click on the folder you wish to share and enable it.
Once you have enabled the share, restart the PC again for the share to become active.
Every time you make a change to any of the networking properties, a restart is required because 9x simply cannot deal with those changes "on the fly".
Pretty much bang on info there from Pegasus like, in Windows 98 you'll find File & Print Sharing under the configuration tab. From here there are 2 tick boxes:
"I want to be able to give others access to my files"
and
"I want to be able to allow others to print to my printer"
Tick the ones you want to be enabled, restart the computer as stated then you will have the option of sharing folders on a right-mouse button menu.
