building a multimedia pc

looking for some advice.

I want to build a system for the living room which will replace my tv, video, dvd and hifi. I plan on getting this

My only concern is the monitor. I want an LCD screen however the LCD screen I have on my deskop clearly isn't suitable as it wouldn't be veiwable from all angles as the screen darkens if you view it from the side. The LCD Tv's I've looked at don't have this problem, seems daft to buy an LCD TV at £400 when I can get a monitor cheaper.

Are LCD monitors suitable for use as a TV?

When I was a lad a multimedia pc had a cdrom and a sound card :tongue

I hope you live on your own or no one wants to watch the TV while your on the PC

The pc will need to be on all the time for you to watch TV if you buy a monitor as the tuner side of things will need to come from a TV card. how many people will wait 45 seconds for a TV to come on?

My advice buy a TV and a PC, you can connect your pc to the TV for DVD playback and buy some decient speakers and use it as a HiFi but dont botehr with using it as a TV. I bought a WinTV card years ago when they were £150 and It was a novelty being on the pc and watching the world cup in the USA, it died off after a month or so.

The LCD monitors which will double as a TV (with built in tuner) are very low resolution when it comes to PC use.
