Question Noob Questions for the pros

Hey this is my first XBox I am pumped to mod this thing. I have a few question from you guys with experience. I was looking at getting the X3 and was wondering if anyone has any comments on this new Mod chip. I was also wondering if anyone knew if it come per flashed or do I have to do that my self? Also I want to put a 200gig HD in it and have seen some peope post that 120 is the max is that true or can I go as large as I want? Thanks for all the help.

Generally the Mod chips come unflashed (because the software is violating MS copywrite). However, you may find a supplier who pre flashes the chip for you.

There once was a technical barrier of 120 gig for hard drive.... but this has been sorted now.
I believe the X3 should work with a 200 gig - no problem!

I put a 160 gig one in recently, I think the limit is something silly in TB not GB

Installation is a piece of p!ss with x3, turn the box on into the x3 menus, ftp to the box and backup all the files to your pc, turn off, take box apart (screws underneath), find screws holding hdd in, take out the hdd put new hdd in (as a master), reconnect, put screws back in, plug cables back in, reboot to x3 menus and select install new harddisc, select the f gets all or f and g lba48 option, format the disc, ftp the files back to the xbox, reboot

took me a few mins to do and I didn't know what I was doing straight off, just did the obvious.

You can either get one of the installer/boot discs to install your software, or do what I did and just ftp a new dashboard and files to the box when the box is booted in the x3 menus

Excellent so with the X3 I can install a huge HD and then relegate my 120GB back to my PC?

you don't need an x3 to use a bigger hard drive mate just a bios with lba 48 support (works just as well on a cheapmod or even a flashed TSOP).

Yes, as long as you unlock the drive before removing it from your box
