my XboX has failed the laser just doesnt wanna read **** all lately..........

so my question is this : what can i do with the thing???
or should i just throw it?????????

you could always try cleaning the laser with a comercially available cleaning kit , or failing that try and get a replacement xbox dvd drive , see image below ( try and avoid THOMSON cos they are pretty limited in what they can read )

is it easy to fit new dvd drive??
could i do it on my own??
what bout chipping it and playing games off hd??

IMHO Philips are a lot worse than Thomson drives.

I find DVD +R media reads better on the Thompson / Philips drive and better if you can set book type to ROM also.

That said, I've had a few issues with Philips and Thompson drives, think the Samsung is the best.

I know someone who bought new Xbox thinking the laser would be better, turned out to be a Philips drive and the bottom of the drive has a big under-carriage which I don't recall on the previous older drives.

Have to say his new drive will only read +R Ritek media set to ROM and he's now thinking about getting the new Crystal Xbox hoping that that machine may have a better ROM drive in it again, think he's clutching at straws a bit there!

ive had a couple of new crystal machines and the drive was tottaly useless, if u pop it open and give the pot a tweak tho it improves no end
