dvd menu creation?

not sure where to post this, so here will do...

can someone tell me what software i need to use to create a dvd menu? i want to have a play with it, so if anyone knows any good free software let me know, let me know what the best program is too please.

Have you tried DVDLab, theres a 30 day trial, not sure if its exactly what ur looking for tho...

I've used Adobe Encore in the past m8, and I know Wizer had a go with it too. If you are familiar with adobe products which I know your are , then give encore a go.

I have used MYDVD which came with my writer but I prefer DVD author from TMPEG as its great for putting several movies on one disc.

not sure about a free one, but the best authoring program is spruce dvd maestro as its a professional mastering application however the price tag makes it a little difficult swallow (£5k) however it goes beyond most authoring programs in that it allows full spec dvd encoding including region coding, css and macrovision startup logos and warnings before the titles, its the software the studios use to produce the master discs for retail duplication.

that said i tend to use tmpg dvd source creator and tmpg dvd author (with the optional ac3 plugin that comes with the pack)

There's a good guide at doom9 using photoshop/Reeldvd. I had a go once and it came out OK

Also used Pinnacle Studio.. was a piece of piss using this.

5 grand for a 47 meg program! crazy!

say it costs 10 million quid to make a bit of software, including everything, even the bill for the man that comes to change the water cooler in the office.

that then gets divided between the millions of people that buy it, then the cost of actually making the cd (a few pence) and the documentation (maybe a few quid) plus profit for the copmany (a fair few quid) then enough to cover other shite like adverts and paying for the people that pirate it resulting in software at around £30 or whatever

now how many profesional dvd studios do you know of? personally i dont know of many so they arent dividing the cost among many people, hence it's high.

i'm sure the software can be acheived through cheaper but more illegal means of couse :whistle

Don't use that cheap rubbish, Sonic Scenarist is the industry standard and a snip at around £15,000.

However as both these programs are aimed at professional production they're an absolute nightmare to use. :| Not the sort of thing you'll figure out just by playing around with em.
