Right click on it and select edit.
when i right click and edit it i get the following:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows]
"Help"=dword:00000009
does that mean its just a change to the windows folder? what does the "help" part mean?
cheers
"help" is the name of the registry key. It's basically creating (or setting) a key called "help" within the registry location HKLM/SW/M$/WIN to dword 0...9.
What exactly is the reg file for?
its for a piece of smartphone software that creates homescreens, its supposed to register it.
hmmm....
Doesn't look too much like it would register it, because it writes to a windows key rather than a key for the software etc... The "hlp" key is not default on winxp though, so it may do no problems, but I would be a little wary about using it.
Use regedit to check if they key actually exists. If not then it shouldn't harm it too much creating it. You can always delete it again
cheers all for the help, basically made a ghost image of the whole partition, tested the registry file, all it does is reset the trial period every time its run, seems to work fine,
it probably hides it into that hive so that people don't just export the easy-to-find HKLM\Software\x bit and get the license info.Originally Posted by John Keymer
