Default PS2 Network adapter - Pls Help

    I have a PS2 network adapter connected (via Cat5) to a Linksys WAG54G modem/router.

Using the network disc to setup the system automatically I get a 'failed ping test' when running the diagnostics.

    I've tried;

    setting up manually
changing router 'port forwarding' & 'DMZ' settings
    disabling router firewall
disabling zonealarm (ps2 IP is within zonealarm range by the way)

Am I missing something obvious ? :nowords:

Does the route have DHCP support?

If so, just use the automatic DHCP setting on your PS2, it should work.

If you don't want to use DHCP, make sure your ip's are on the same subnet and you are using patch cable, not x-over.

Port forwarding is not needed and ZoneAlarm shouldn't even see it unless you are connecting via your PC.

    Hi,

The router does have DCHP support & is set to on.

PS2 DCHP is set to automatic.

Tried setting manually but still no luck.

Cable is a patch cable, not a cross-over.

The only test that fails is the Ping test from the diagnostics section - it seems to see the network/router but doesn't get any further.

By the way I am connecting via a PC connected to a router (using port 2 of the router - which lights up when the PS2 is connected).

Anything else I can try ?

Managed to get it to connect to the network.

Now it connects as I can see it's IP address in the router DCHP routing table......but.......can't get it to connect via an FTP prog (ie FAPLink or HDL Dump).
Anything else I can try ?

By The way, do I have to put the network disc in every time I want to connect to the network ?

You deffinately don't need the network disc everytime. It saves your network config to the memory card.
To be honest it was about a year ago when I did my sons and found it fairly automatic.
If I remember you get a list of ISPs and I chose ours (ntl) and it did the rest.Mine is on a router with dhcp enabled and away it went.
I do know (cause I've tried) you can't just ftp to a PS2 using say FlashFXP cause a ps2 doesn't have a built in ftp server.
If you know the ps2 ip addy that Windows has assigned to it have you tried pinging it? That will tell you if the connection is alive.
Just a thought, if your running XP, is the firewall stopping it. (not sure why it would).

    Thanks.

Found a prog called Execftp, you have to do a bit of messing arounf with IP addresses but eventually got it to boot the PS2 as an FTP server.

CuteFTP managed to connect to it but I can't see the HD or Memory card - which I thought I would have been able to.

Still can't get FAPLink or HdlFump to attach though.

I'm sure am X-Box would have been easier..............:nowords:
