    Default Windows startup problems

I have just re-installed Windows XP and then added Nortons systemworks 2005, all worked well last night, then this morning when booting up i am received a windows installer gray box in the middle of the screen and then a nortons anti virus message appears on top of it saying that it does not support repair.

This is the reason i reinstalled windows in the first place because it was driving me made every time i booted up.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on. A reinstall usually sorts out most of my problems but not in this case.

    Please Help :grr:

    Info Re: Windows startup problems

In all honesty I would ditch Nortons....

Did this problem manifest after it was installed?

There are just as good *FREE* utilities available online as an alternative to Nortons....

    AV - AVG from http://grisoft.com
Firewall - Sygate / Zonealarm / Kerio - My personal choice here is Sygate

There are plenty of freeby disk management tools around too...

The problem itself may be an outdated MSI installer - try grabing the latest one from Microsoft site and see if that helps.

I was using norton 2004 and XP pro - gave up on norton in the end as it was a complete pain in the arse and buggered up my system

Swapped to McAfee and haven't had a problem since
