PSTwo movie stutter?

Hi all,

I've just tried to play my first DVD (original) movie on my PSTwo but notice the film "stutters" a few times. I played the same film in the xbox and on my set-top dvd player and there's no stutter at the point where it does on the PSTwo.

Can anyone offer any advice on what to check?

How old is your PS2?

Could be the laser wants a ggod clean, or is just knackered!!!

Not sure if this applies.

Is it just the layer change in a dual layer movie? I know that some players cope with the change better than others.
I guess it would be the same place everytime, and only once on that disc.

good suggestion but nope, it's a D&D (the cartoon) dvd and it happens at a few places not just halfway through a movie where i'd expect a layer change to happen

I've done some googling and it could just be the pstwo, seems they are a bit "flaky" with dodgy laser units in them

dont suppose you've spent some time playing grand theft auto san andreas have you? if so take your pstwo back, the laser is ****ed.

they should have called it grand theft auto : pstwo killer, i believe the record is 5 hours to kill a pstwo playing it.

Yeah have playe GTA:SA but not for more than say an hour at a time, how can playing gta mess a console up though?

mainly because it constantly accesses the disc so the laser is working overtime and the ps 2 lasers were bad, the pstwo lasers are even worse, playing gta:sa simply burns them out very quickly (recorded are 2 cases now of 5 hours of gtasa killing 2 seperate pstwos that i know of) with all ps2's of any type when the laser starts to go its the dvd (game and film) side of things that starts to stop first beginning with stuttering movies and in game video then problems getting it to load dvd's untill finaly it'll boot nothing.

aparently dvdrw discs are another very good way to kill a ps2 laser as well so i assume that must be a focusing issue.

damn that's bad, guess with gta:sa being such a big seller atm sony's gonna have a whole lot of pstwo's being returned ((

Guess i'll stop playing sa before things get worse and wait for an xbox version to appear

was it a slim pstwo that you had as well shangrula? I'm shocked that if the problem is as widespread as this then sony's not doing something about it and that it's not been reported in more of hte mainstream sites? This is the first place i've heard of it, and only now that i've searched some of the other underground sites do i see mention of it.

na i'm just a random bitcher, mine was on a old ps2

i'm gutted san andreas has given numerous people so many problems. the pc versoin will be a welcome addition to my games collection.

Well i'm hoping i can nip my ps2 problems in the bud by not playing gta again. All other games seem to be fine and it was just dvd giving me issues earlier, I can live without movie playback as i can use the xbox or something to play em on. As long as eye toy keeps on working i'm happy )

Just gotta be patient and wait for gta for xbox/pc

to be honest its not only the new style ones that have been dying the later models of the old style one too as well as well used ones, its not heard of in the mainstream because sony dont want people to know how shit their product is just before its big sales, of course you cant buy one at the moment (and therefore cant take one back for replacement either) and by the time sony release their stocks there will be too little time left if the story does make it to the press for people to be returning them before xmas eve, after that it doesnt matter how many they get back, its those all important xmas sales figures that sony want the public to see, its returns figures they have kept a good secret on for a number of years now, its only places like this and others where people have some degree of knowelege of the playstation situation that you find people talking about it, but as you said, if you searc you will find other sites saying the same things.

RECKON IT THE LASER M8......DONT REALLY MATTER HOW OLD THEY ARE PS2 LASERS ARE NOT THAT GOOD ANYWAY.........TRY RUNNING A CLEANING DISC THROUGH IT:thumbs :thumbs
