Default lotus excel : which oil ?

I bought an old lotus excel, 2.2 litre, twin carb

Anyway I would like to know what oil it should take.. the handbook says 20W 50 or 15W50 for normal conditions. These dont seem that common these days. I know that many oils have been replaced by lower viscosity synthetics but i have NO idea what this has been running on, or what to put in it on the next change (which I will do imminently). Anyone help ?

    Thanks

What isn't so common these days, the 20W 50 oil or normal conditions?

Seriously though Malt, if 20W 50 is the recommended oil, then the likes of Castrol GTX or Duckhams Multigrade will do just fine.

cheers for that, im no mechanic just the numbers didnt match. manual said 20w50 and the only thing in halfords was their own shit mineral oil.

I think gtx is 10W30, is that gonna be ok then ?

i know the 1st number is viscosity when cold and the second is when running, but i dont really know what difference this makes in the real world.
