pretty impressive, although I still reckon its' too late for the GC tho myself But will of course be getting mine modded, although having already spent too much cash on abou 40 games for my GC i dont thikn there's any decent games that I dont have or which i dont have on the xbox/ps2 already

aaaaahh BOLLOCKS. I was a bit disappointed about missing the £30 Cube Tesco thing, but wasn't too fussed cos you can't play backups. Now i'm just plain gutted

hmmm still not sure, here is why....

when a gc disc is read by the god the first thing is pass a key to the god which allows the god to create a decrypt key that is different for each game (a bit like the nds system), the god then passes this decrypted data to the cube, now any new bios in the cube can obviously read the decrypted data as can the original bios, but if you insert an original disc it passes that games key to the god, swap the disc for a different game and the key no longer works, freeloader / ar gets around this by allowing the god to detect the disc swap and read the new key but simply swapping a disc unknown to the godin theory wouldnt work becuse it is still trying to use the decrypt key from the original disc to decrypt the already unincrypted iso.

streaming a game bypasses the god so its no problem and needs the decrypted data, creating the iso requires the original disc in the god so the cube gets the unencrypted data to stream to the pc.

in theory if thet settled on a common game and re-crypted every iso to the key of the common game (say mario sunshine) then in theory if you could remove the lid switch detect you could swap the disc and let the god decrypt using sunshines key whatever iso was in the drive to pass the decrypted data to the cube to allow it to play, but i've seen no ability to do this on the viper software or the cobra bios.

i remain unconvinced as of yet.

I recon that its gonna totaly overwrite the bios, when you insert any gamecube game the GC will read the barcode thingy on the disk, then youll get that screen shown on Max Consoles, giving you the option to either play game inserted or swap for a different sort of disk :whistle then you hold in the correspondnig button for which bios you use.

Think ill be gettin mine done as soon as i get mine from tesco!!

But think ill fit a little switch on the side (Ala Jap/US region free switch, remember those!!) so i can turn it off when i play origionals, just incase!

the chip is available at gamefreax for 60 euro's..

if it's only capable of booting hoebrew code, then (imo) it's a rip-off.. however, if it's able to boot dvd-r media then i may invest..

i have my doubts about the breakthough, the news comes from zeus, i dont know when or how he gained cred but the last i knew of him he was pi55ing everyone off on #messiah-world and i had to ban the loser

I don't believe they have that bios. Especially the "swapping" trick i don't believe for several reasons (one of them is that the drive will detect the loss of focus and will attempt to re-read the drive, including disc check), even with a hacked lid-sensor (i usually shortcut them, because i don't want to hold the switch the whole time and some of my GCs doesn't have cases anymore)

Anyway - i suspect them of announce the bios to sell more of their chips, as they explicitely say that the bios *will come later*.

However they really might have found a software-exploitable backdoor in the dvdrom. If they did it, respect. But as said, i don't believe (but i sure could be wrong, as usual).

Or maybe it's all simpler than i have thought, and i simply messed up the disc-swapping...

oh, and if they really have this hack (but i still don't believe it) - it can be used with PSO and every other "modchip" as well, as it's supposed to be only software (+ the lid sensor "hack" probably, but that's just a shortcut...)

It's possible to run any bios by creating a proper dol-hdr and loading it with your favourite dol-loader.

the Viper doesn't have any additional hardware feature which couldn't be emulated (if they are queried).


Oh, and don't believe them in telling that the bios is just not pre-installed because of legal reasons. It's sure a reason, but don't get tricked. Please. (oh, it looks like my point of view is very biased, sorry)

well the reasons are slightly different, but i'm realy glad that a respected member of dextrose and the gc community agrees with my thoughs on the drive not accepting the new disc.

i'll believe it when i see it with my own eyes or its confirmed by a few df or dextrose members, but i think hell may just freeze over first
