My pet hate...Jack of all trades....and master of none.(not personal M8).
Its Cowboy season.....why,oh fkn why does it have to be "done for Xmas"
Women,thats why...
They get a shoddy job, they pay an arm and a leg....but if they wait til January,REAL tradesmen are quiet, cheap & almost reliable.
Funny thing is...most peeps go OUT on Xmas day.
Dont Do It !!! :grr:
why not just get into it and learn how to do it yourself?
....i'm sure there's rucks of guides on the net & if you're gonna call in the pro's anyway you might as well give it a bash...unless your wiring or something that would have be done by a pro
Whoever invented decorating wants Fookin'.
Whoever invented Fookin' wants decorating.

but one thing i won't do is let someone else do it. had too many prob's in the past from trader's working in my house. at any time of year. they are mostly all shite!! and just want the £££
do without m8 the grief it will give you won't be worth it.
I am fed up to the back teeth with decorating, well it's more like rebuilding in my bathroom. I am currently learning the art of dry lining.
Should be finished for next christmas.
hahah i had a near miss with decorating 'for xmas' missus managed to talk me in to it then luckily the carpet shop couldn't promise to deliver before xmas :thumbs

it just winds me up cos i can see the old colour underneath maybe after 10 coats it will cover it up unless i chuck it all out of the fookin window first then ill need a glazier as well merry fookin decorating :annoyed:

quite right mate, after 20 years of being married she(the wife) had this crazy idea that i (her lord and master) should make a cup of tea after the usuall 20 minutes looking for the cups then trying to find the cutlery, after asking if she took sugar or milk(why would i know) then brewing up something that tasted like rats piss i was never asked again...Originally Posted by Andy Poobar

My mum and dad decided they wanted Double-glazing so they got someone in they knew to sort it out 6 windows and 2 doors. no problem. Removing and replacing windows leaves holes in the walls near the windows so a plasterer is required makes a mess of the suite and it is decided we need a new one anyway.
Went bought the suite, decided it wouldn’t match the carpets so new carpets which spread in to the dining room and well with all the work going on now we may as well do some more. were the thoughts.
Replacing the windows ended up in:
Living room: redecorated, new carpets, new suite, wall lights, new "big light", ceilings plastered and 1 radiator replaced with one that uses about a cup of water.
Dining room: new carpet, decorated, ceiling covered 2 lights installed replacing the single light, another radiator and new pipes to go with it, new thermostat for the new combi boiler, extra light switches to work both lights.
Kitchen: it was replaced so new kitchen the heating boiler was moved from the kitchen to the attic, new floor covering and electrics and decorated and some new appliances
Stairs: these are open and in the dining room so they were carpeted to match the dining room and the dinning room wallpaper went upstairs on to the landing that also got decorated and carpeted in the same paper and carpet.
Attic: New Combi Boiler
And all 3 weeks before Christmas
Luckily we know people who were window installers, electricians, painters and decorators and we used the kitchen and carpet fitters of the companies we bought them from.
If you still need a decorator let me know I may be able to point you in the direction of a mate. But he says he is busy at this time of year
Dont mind painting, but papering is pure torture, to give you a hint, make two straight slices when you come to the corners, one at top one at bottom, walls are never straight, so paper seems to angle when you hit the second waqll with it. the middle of paper seems to do the corners fine, jsut top and bottom that like to play up.By way, just had to get my mum's decorated last week intime for xmas, so mine is now on hold till after new year.
Wouldn't this thread have been better of in the whining forum?
