pc booting probs :(

hey guys, ive just bought a pc from an auction. and im having trouble booting it up. its an acer 7100 win2000 (quite old) when i first turn the machine on it loads up with an acer screen and says to enter setup press F12 (boot menu), i just leave it going and then it stops booting and says invalid system disk, replace disk and then press any key. Ive tried changing the boot method to hard drive but it still wont have it.

any ideas mate?

Hi Dan288, the message means their is no/invalid/damaged operating system in the machine, best bet would be format the hard drive and do a clean install of your chosen operating system. :thumbs and when you boot to floppy or cd/dvd you need to make sure you are using a bootable disk

like bluto said it probably needs a format and a re-install. Dont need to sound negative but I have a friend that had the same problem and it was actaully the harddrive was dead. If you check in your bios that the harddrive is detected your fine but if not that could also be the problem.

thanks for replying guys, managed to get a mate with a startup disk, turns out there was no operating system on the machine

what an idiot. Scanned hd and its cool.

I know it was a bit dodgey, I thought my account died or something and I hadn't even done anything !! So I made another, I better get that sorted really
