    Default Socket 754

    Hey all,

I was informed that the reason of the price drop with 754 boards is because they are no longer being made because they cant increase other hardware as much as they thought they would be able to e.g ram.

I was wondering if anyone had any information on this? Doesn't really matter anyway because I will still buy my 754 Lanparty DFI board.

    Cheers

Aside from it's physical limitations, Socket 754 is not being supported by AMD any more.

If you go ahead and buy a 754 board regardless as you have stated, you are simply buying obselete hardware.

But.. Dont you think its worth it? because a socket 939 is a lot more expensive, and whats the extra features?

Plus you are still middle of the range hardware, and you will still be able to get the processors.

So i dont really see the point of getting 939 yet, but please correct me/add your view

Have a look here m8 - explains the main difference in the 2. And the 754 is still going to be supported by AMD, because they are going to start pushing the Sempron on 754 config, so that the Socket A can finally be removed.

If ye can afford the difference go with the 939 - you then have 2 boards I would look at. The Asus A8V or the Abit AV8 - 3rd Eye. I have the A8V and me m8 has the Abit, and I would say his is slightly faster

    Both are reasonably priced m8.

    Regards

hi m8 - this is me under my original username - got 4me2 to sort it out for me

I would go for the Asus board - I cant see past them and have had no probs with it at all. It has also had a great write up on many hardware boards. And i would go for the 1024Mb of PC 3200, that way you can run it in dual channel mode on the motherboard. Helps to increase the access times on the memory.
