    Default "Mod" - Resistor

Just been shifting around ebay and came across a guy selling "mod chips" however by looking at his feedbakc it shows that all they are in fact is a resistor that fools your engine into thinking it is cooler than it is!
Has anyone had any experience with these? If they do work then I wouldn't mind having a mess about with it, but would be a lot easier just to pick a resistor up from the locla electrical store rather than paying £4 or whatever they are on ebay!!
    I have a corsa premier '96

    Thanks

why dont you soup it up ?????????
get a nice tin of cambells cream of mushroom soup and pour it in the tank that should change the performance a little but remember to save some for the exterior of your machine to customise the paint work
then pour the remainder on the seats for that uniquie colour coded interior look
if your lucky you may have a little left to pour on the glass and get that tinted windows look
post some pics when its done
    and good luck fella !!!!!!!!!

by the way the resistor will do nothing but damage in the long run so best avoid :thumbs

I've got a mate who tried these resistor chips, they are a bitof a pain to install and did ****l all. Personally it didn't damage his car badly but had the odd knock on effect, so yeah stay clear. If you've got a car that you feel needs a £4 chip to increase power then the car is not worth tuneing.

best things for smaller cars are air filters and a straight thro cat pipe to improve power. not a £4 chip!

yeah put a decent filter in it make sure its getting cool air (air box). If your going to put alloy's on it dont fit wider tyres (lower profile yes) as they will create more drag on the road surface and you will in effect go slower. If your gonna put a new exhaust on it dont go for a massive bore exhaust again you will loose torque and power (no flow in the exhaust to get any extraction effect) on a engine that this small no bigger than 4cm, 4.5cm tops diameter free flowing exhaust

Decating a car is a bit of a urban myth these days as the car is tuned with the cat in place so removing it looses more torque at lower rpm than the power you gain at the top end of the rpm end range (any one who says you get 10 bhp or more is lieing this only applied to cars around the period of cat introduction because the manufactures didnt want to spend the money retuning/designing there current engine designs so the just put a cat on it and it restricted them). Yes you will gain the odd brake by doing this but you will definately loose low end drive ability so unless you raggin it every where dont bother.

Hopefully my KnN filter should be here today, I have a pipercorss one on at current but is only effective between 3,000 and 5,000 rpm, not lower ranges. At the time I bought one, they didn't make a KnN for my car, but they do now, So picked one up of ebay for £50 not bad really seen as they are new.

Have an exhaust waiting to be fitted, its a 3" stainless pipe. Exactly as said above, on a smaller engine bigger back box and pipe will do nothing in your favour!

Have a look around and see if you can find a replacment panel filter (goes where orignal went) that way the air box tuning will still work (if there is any) and it looks standard too always handy with insurance companies.

Hi M8, keep your cash in your bin, been loads on e-bay selling these.all it is is a resistor (available from Maplins for under 10p) fools you maf snsor into thinkink car is running cooler than it actually is, all this does is makes your mixture richer,eg more fuel, might get a small improvement at high revs but better idea would be to buy a decent K+N filter, costs a few quid more but at least you will get some improvement for your hard earned
