its finally arrived. . My X3 chip came in the post and will be going into my Xbox crystal, is there anything I should watch out for? Any pitfalls I should be aware of before getting started?
Cheers

Read the install giude twice then read again, tape down the wires that are underneath the board, and make sure none of them get trapped
when you go to flash your x3 make sure you have the switch on the chip in the write position
Have a good read here hXXp://home.comcast.net/~x3guide/
If its a new crystal itll be a 1.6 version and youll need to do an lpc rebuilt.

Just done my crystal too. take your time. use a flux pen this helps the solder run nicely. The x3 is an excellent chip m8. good luck
You will never go wrong with an X3, I fitted 2 in the same day, mines and my nephews.
I did mine yesterday, easy, but make sure you know if you have 1.6 or 1.6b version crystal box you can tell be checking what RAM chip you have, samsung is a 1.6 where a hynix means you have a 1.6b. You will need to know this to make sure you flash with the correct hacked bios!
Good luck!
Or you could do what I did get someone else to do it that knows what they are doing.
doesnt this contradict the meaning of joining this forum?? (And a cheap way to bump posts ) I suppose ill give ya credit, some things are best left to peeps that know what they are doing, but they didnt just go to xbox modding skool, (aha Idea! )Originally Posted by kislam
Ok before you say im just bumping ill add my pennies worth
I too chipped my 1.6b crystal and was more wires than expected but seemed to do fine without digging out my flux. I also added some blue leds in the corners at the front, does look sweet, but am gonna take em out, and get some EL ribbon instead :thumbs
I also tweaked the pot in my drive aswell to better read my cheapo dvd's but didnt seem to make it work any better. I also noticed that in some guides for pot tweaking that some peeps turned it like 2 times to get desired resistence, but I only have to minutely turn it to get huge drops! this is prob due to different drive, but ill sort it, eventually.
I tried upgrading the hard drive and did not have the tools.. it cost me alot less to get it done then to actualy buy the tool.. and I dont realy want to take the chance of killing my machine.
2 screwdrivers that cost about 3 quid?
yeah, but i understand his side, as he would prob need a soldering iron aswell, and I wouldnt buy a soldering iron for one job.... but I do beleive in owt for nowt, (or next to nowt )
i did.. people were trying to charge £60 to mod an XBOX. so i bought a chip £10 (cheapmod), a soldering iron £20 and a set of tools from the local market £4 and did it my selfOriginally Posted by ']['enacious
