    Default Component cable

Does anyone know if the component cable for the gamecube works on PAL versions? I have a nice plasma and want to connect via component like the XBox but I see conflicting info on the net and I don't fancy wasting £40 if it doesn't work...

I'm sure that it does. I heard before that the old N64 ones work aswell on the Cube.

I have a 'Q' unfortunately (well not Unfortunately) which has a different video output. It does sport SVHS however.....

Someone may need to clarify first.

I'm fairly sure the UK cube does not produce a component signal, but I hope I'm wrong mate.

Apparantly you need to hold the 'B' button down to switch to component and it does work on PAL GC. I was chating with one of the guys in the office and he has his GC connected via component and says the difference is substantially noticable. I think its because it uses the digital port instead of the a/v port so the signal is just a pure progressive one.

It's a shame the GC only supports up to 480p though :-( Res Evil 4 in 720p would be luuuush

What about the NTSC version? All the games I have (NTSC) are HDTV Compatible if you hold a button whilst loading

Once I move into my new flat I'm grabbing a 50" Plasma which is HDTV ready, gaming will be soooooo much fun then

That's why I want the component cable ;-) XBox games look the nuts in 1080i. The Gamecube will only support 480p however!

ok - component is not yellow - that's composite video. component requires 3 rca or bnc connections for video alone

The GameCube always boots up in 15KHz mode, and will switch to 31KHz (e.g. 480p, progressive-scan) if the 'B' button is held down during the boot sequence, and if the game supports a progressive scan display too. As far as I know this is only available from the component / RGB video output from the digital A/V port. RGB video from the Analog A/V port of a PAL GameCube is fixed at 15KHz (480i, interlaced) output only

i've tried doing this on my PAL gc,i've heard that it supports it but however i cannot get the option to switch to prog scan to come up,i know pal games dont have it but i tryed ntsc version of resi evil 4,f zero gx and starfox assault,i hold the b button and it doesnt ask me to switch to progressive mode,so i question if all pal machines support it,ill hopefully have my component cable coming through soon.

just because TV has component inputs on it , doesnt mean it can support progressive scan , it prolly just supports 480i ( interlaced ) and i have yet to see any UK PAL GC that can display a 480p ( progressive ) picture

Unless theres a component cable connected you dont get the option to switch modes IIRC.
