The new 3 part show on channel 4, where prof Gunther Von Hagens performes autopsy's on telly.... whats your views?
I think they have come a long way since the first one a few years ago.... am well made up with it... very educational
Doh missed it.Originally Posted by incognito™

Im getting educated to it, now all I need is a bacon slicer and my problems at home will be sorted.
Now where is miss urbsy....

can't see how this is for education though? more like morbid curiosity?
autopsy's have alway's been behind closed door's probly because it's somthing that most people would not want to know about or see?
i have no prob with this sort of stuff on tv or anywhere else but? i don't think it's being done purely for our education?
what next? when you go to see a friend\family in hospital you can walk past pathology and look in cos it's surrounded by big glass window's for all to look in? (i'm bein extreme here)
when your dead you are waste and your more or less treated like that. i think this is something most don't wanna see or know about (unless he's trying to recrute more doctor's?)
would be interesting to see some of the people in the audience's face's if put in a real morgue to watch a autopsy? i bet some would not stay?
I know where youre coming from wizzard, my mate disco was a path lab tech and the amount of people from all walks of life who witnessed the goings on from the day to day running of the lab was amazing he said, you get students, police, nurses, doctors even people in the film industry used to come to watch.
as for they have come a long way statement I was talking about thye live autopsy von hagens did a couple of years ago when the body had been treated with formaldehyde (embalming fluid) months before and it was a rank old body.
I saw the trailers for this and thought it looked interesting but was'nt too sure if I actually 'could' watch it ... so I taped the first two to give me chance to make my mind up!
I've just sat and watched them and found it fascinating , I was suprised that I actually managed to watch it though .... I'm so squeamish that I can't carve a chicken .
Its not gruesome in a gory bloody way ... the worst bit is the noises , I put my fingers in my ears when he chiseled a skull open and cut through ribs with scissors.
It is educational and it shows that Von Hagens sees the human body as a beautiful and interesting thing .... but he's just so scary! I think that the hat, strange teeth and the b-movie bad guy accent don't help ...its all just too wierd. :nowords:
It says at the beginning that there are future donors in the studio audience ...I wonder how many of them will have backed out after watching?
I reckon that the man in the white coat explaining everything is an attempt to make it more educational , without him it would have a more morbid tone.

Was there any plastination involved? That truly is fascinating.
http://www.univie.ac.at/anatomie2/plastination.html
There were plastinated bodies hanging in the background and they also showed a body where the veins had been injected with polymer and the skin, muscle etc taken away to show bloodflow , it was just like a full body made of red wire.
They also used plastinated hearts and lungs to show their framework and sections.

i was amased that the brain is like custard till they treat it with something to make it firm i thought they were always like that

I think this is great, okay taking of the skin was a bit too much but other than that, brilliant TV.
Missed last night's (I was doing my own gyno investigation with the Mrs) but Monday's was great. Very educational.
At the end of the day, if people don't like it, TURN OVER!

Sounds and looks good from the trailers.
It is the type of thing that poeple will either be interested in or can quite happily leave. I am fascinated by this type of thing. I remeber seeing a documentary on open heart surgery when i was eatign my dinner one evening.
It is life, i am glad some poeple are curious enough to do this, answer alot of questions.
The Von Hagens guy i reckon might be considered a Dr Frankstien of our day. When he first came on the scene there waws alot of unease in the medical profession. But seeing what he does and stands for does put your mind at rest that he is not some MAD MAN in the true sense.
It is amzing to think that his method of preservation can allow students and even dr's to explore and do much more with a dead body (cant psell the proper word).
I would love to see an autopsy up close, but what i hear about the smell turns me off. It is that i do not think i can handle.
Cheers.....Q
I think these programs are fascinating..cant see why some people are so up in arms about the nature of the program, loads of medical shows feature real operations and alike, the only difference is the people in those shows are alive rather than dead..
on a side note tho, Von Hagens with that hat..if he had a red striped jumper on i swear he would be the spitting image of Freddy!

rather than having to wait till a dvd comes out have a look on the torrents sites (uknova) they will probably have it in divx/mpeg then convert and burn theres only 4 episodes so 1 dvd should be enough
